Anything prior toalthough current establishments would be welcome also. There was a black gay bar - a dive - downtown back in the early 90s that had been there for years I think it was The Markett or The Marketta - not sure of the spelling. I heard it was a rough crowd with lots of drag queens and hustlers.
Pear Garden used to sponsor a black gay softball team aroundbut I'm not sure if it was a bar or not. Both of these were on or around Luckie Street. Also the Gallus Basement Bar had to really search my memory to come up with that one was mostly if not all black the one time I experienced it.
Not sure if that's what you're looking for I guess you already know about Traxx and The Palace - I'm not sure if either of those go back as far as or not.

That's about the extent of my memory on the subject. Last edited by JoeTarheel; at PM. Traxx was a very popular multi-level gay club in the pres era. The club was immense and the crowd was a diverse mix of majority black gay men and lesbians. Then the owner, David Hampton, was brutally murdered. His charred body was found in the back seat of his burnt out SUV.
He was shot to death before being set on fire. After David's death, his business partner opened a new gay club in Decatur and he made it clear that women lesbians were not welcome there. Marketta sounds very close to Loretta's which was over near the North Ave Metro Station but I will google Marketta to see if there was something else.
